Alpana Singh Comments on Post-Earthquake Chile at Chicago Gourmet

Before Alpana Singh guided us through a tasting of “typical” Chilean wines, she told us the story of how she visited Chile in March this year, shortly after the earthquake on February 27, 2010. In Chile, they are used to earthquakes and children are taught the triangle of life: in the event of an earthquake, you cover your head near a strong column so that the collapsing roof forms a shelter around you. From what I understand, this makes a lot more sense than what I was taught in schools to duck under a table, which would collapse in the middle. “People just went on with their lives,” she added.
